National Energy Champions Confirm Participation at Libya Energy & Economic Summit 2026

Source: APO

.

Senior executives from state-backed and nationally anchored energy companies will participate at the Libya Energy & Economic Summit (LEES) 2026, highlighting the growing role of national energy champions in Libya’s upstream reopening. Turkey’s TPAO, Hungary’s MOL Plc. and Poland’s ORLEN Group have confirmed senior-level participation, reflecting renewed confidence among government-backed operators as Libya advances licensing, exploration and production activity.

Scheduled for January 24-26, 2026, in Tripoli, the fourth edition of LEES comes as Libya accelerates upstream investment, refines its licensing strategy and works to lift operational constraints across key basins. Held under the theme “Infrastructure & Investment Driving Energy Growth”, the summit is officially endorsed by the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Oil and Gas and the National Oil Corporation (NOC).

Turkey’s national oil company TPAO has become one of the most active state-backed entrants into Libya’s upstream sector. In June 2025, TPAO signed an offshore exploration MoU with the NOC covering geological and geophysical studies across four offshore areas, including a 10,000-km 2D seismic survey. Having also qualified as an operator in Libya’s 2025 bid round, TPAO has indicated readiness to deploy capital and technical expertise as Libya reopens to international partnerships. CEO Ahmet Türkoğlu will address LEES 2026.

Poland’s ORLEN Group has expanded its Libyan footprint following improvements in the operating environment. Through PGNiG Upstream North Africa, the company resumed preparations for active exploration in 2025 after the lifting of force majeure, reinforcing its presence in the Murzuq Basin. ORLEN operates the 5,500 km2 EPL 113 concession and has engaged with the NOC and Zallaf Oil and Gas on production forecasts at the Al-Wafa field, technical cooperation and gas infrastructure development, while evaluating additional upstream opportunities as Libya moves toward higher production targets. ORLEN Group CEO Ireneusz Fąfara will speak at LEES 2026.

Hungary’s MOL Plc. joins LEES 2026 following its qualification as an operator in Libya’s first international licensing round in nearly two decades. The milestone supports MOL’s strategy of expanding its international upstream portfolio and diversifying crude supply sources, positioning Libya as a potential cornerstone market for future growth. MOL will be represented by Zsombor Marton, Group Exploration and Production Executive Vice President.

“The participation of national energy champions such as TPAO, MOL and ORLEN Group underscores the renewed confidence state-backed operators are placing in Libya’s upstream potential,” said James Chester, CEO of Energy Capital & Power. “Their long-term outlook, institutional backing and operational capabilities will be critical to driving sustainable investment and production growth.”

Join industry leaders at the Libya Energy & Economic Summit 2026 in Tripoli and explore investment opportunities in one of North Africa’s most dynamic energy markets. LEES 2026 offers a premier platform for partnerships, innovation and sector growth. Visit www.LibyaSummit.com to secure your participation. Mercy Ships and Madagascar Celebrate the Conclusion of a Successful Field Service with Plans to Continue Next Year

Source: APO

Following 10 months of successful partnership in strengthening surgical care and health capacity, the Government of Madagascar and Mercy Ships (www.MercyShips.org) announce the conclusion of the Africa Mercy’s® 2025 field service. This marks the end of a significant chapter of collaboration, and the beginning of a new one, as the hospital ship prepares to return to Madagascar in May 2026 after a period of maintenance.

This field service represented Mercy Ships’ fifth visit to Madagascar since 1996, and the second consecutive field service in the port of Tamatave for the Africa Mercy. During this period, the organization provided more than 1,370 life-changing surgeries for over 1,250 patients, addressing conditions such as goiters, bowed legs, cataracts, cleft lips, and more.

Among the year’s most remarkable stories is that of a blind mother and daughter (https://apo-opa.co/499CadF) who, after years of relying solely on sound and touch, were finally able to see each other’s faces following their surgeries on board. Additionally, the team delivered over 7,110 dental procedures for more than 1,140 dental patients.

“A fruitful collaboration exists between the Ministry of Public Health and Mercy Ships, working towards a strengthened health system and improved access to healthcare,” says Minister of Health, Dr. Managa Monira.

Over the course of its hospital ship’s previous visits, Mercy Ships has worked with the Malagasy government to provide over 7,770 surgical procedures and over 57,930 dental procedures.

Beyond surgical care, Mercy Ships is committed to sustainable development in the host country’s medical infrastructure. Since arriving in February, the organization has partnered with the Ministry of Health to deliver comprehensive medical training, designed to strengthen Madagascar’s surgical systems and local healthcare professionals. This includes, among other disciplines, physiotherapist mentoring, surgery training, specialized biomedical, dental, and lab technician education, and nurse anesthetic mentoring. During this field service, the team delivered over 9,050 training hours on board, over 11,030 training hours off-ship, and engaged more than 150 unique participants.

“The dedication of our Malagasy colleagues reminds us why this work matters,” expresses Education, Training, and Advocacy Director Glenn Wiffin. “Walking alongside them as they strengthen their surgical system shows that real impact comes from empowering those shaping their country’s future, leaving a legacy that will last long after we depart.”

As the ship prepares to leave the port city of Tamatave for maintenance, Mercy Ships expresses deep gratitude to the people and government of Madagascar for their hospitality, trust, and commitment to improving surgical care nationwide.

“More than 1400 volunteers from over 60 countries came together this year to serve the people of Madagascar on board,” says Nathan Janson, Managing Director of the Africa Mercy. “It has been an honor to share hope and healing. We look forward to returning in 2026 to strengthen partnerships, collaborate with the government, and meet the many patients still waiting for care.”

Following this season of positive impact in Madagascar, the Africa Mercy will enter an extended Annual Maintenance Period until she returns to Madagascar in May 2026 for a third consecutive field service.  The scheduled return reaffirms Mercy Ships’ long-term commitment to supporting Madagascar’s goals for improving its national healthcare system.

Submissions captured moments of personal transformation, pure happiness, or imagination-driven expression, reflecting the diversity of stories that define African digital culture today.

The TECNO Glory Night Awards not only celebrated achievement, they reaffirmed the brand’s commitment to empowering Africa’s creative ecosystem. By bringing together influencers from across the continent at AFCON, TECNO strengthens the bridge between sport, technology, and culture.

The brand’s investment in the creator community aligns with its ambition to foster deeper integration between its technology offerings and the cultural forces shaping African markets. This celebration is part of a wider effort to strengthen TECNO’s association with AFCON, engage creators, and elevate KOL-driven campaigns through emotionally resonant content.

As the evening concluded, the atmosphere reflected a sense of collective pride, not only for the winners but for the continent’s creative momentum. The Glory Night Awards marked a defining moment for Africa’s next generation of storytellers, who now carry their trophies as symbols of recognition, visibility, and their rising role in shaping Africa’s digital narrative.

The night may have ended, but the moments created will continue to shine, because with TECNO, every moment has the power to become extraordinary.

Along with KOL Night Awards, TECNO curated an exclusive product experience zone: brand guides walked Joeboy through its latest devices, spotlighting AI-driven photography features tailored for content creators—aligning with the “Power Your Moment” ethos. The demo let the artist test real-time editing tools, streamlining on-the-go creative workflows.

A highlight was the 3D photo station with TECNO AI : KOLs posed with the device, which offers boosted low-light performance and portrait optimization—key capabilities to elevate their visual content. Many snapped behind-the-scenes shots instantly, turning the experience into shareable moments that mirrored the event’s festive energy.

At the TECNO AI Ecosystem showcase, KOLs engaged with interactive demos: trying VR gear linked to the smart ecosystem, or testing AI translation/summarization tools on the MEGAPAD. These hands-on sessions highlighted how TECNO’s interconnected tech empowers creators to expand their creative reach and efficiency.
