HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani met on Monday with HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov, who is visiting the country.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and means to enhance and develop them.
The meeting also addressed the latest regional developments, particularly those related to the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, as well as ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions in support of regional security and stability.

HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs underscored the importance of all parties engaging constructively in ongoing mediation efforts, noting that such engagement would help address the root causes of the crisis through dialogue and peaceful means, and contribute to achieving a sustainable agreement that prevents further escalation.

Qatar Reaffirms Commitment to Combating Racial Discrimination at UN Meeting

The State of Qatar has reiterated the importance of eliminating racism and racial discrimination in all its forms, highlighting steps taken to promote equality, tolerance and social cohesion.

The statement was delivered by Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the UN Office in Geneva, Jawhara bint Abdulaziz Al Suwaidi, during an informal meeting of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination with states parties to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

She said the State of Qatar had adopted policies and plans aimed at fostering an inclusive and safe society free from intolerance, hatred and discrimination, stressing that racism contravenes international and national laws and norms.

Al Suwaidi also emphasized the importance of maintaining neutrality, objectivity and mutual respect in the committee’s work, noting that such principles strengthen trust in international mechanisms and ensure their effectiveness.

She warned against approaches that could fuel division or justify exclusion based on race or origin, particularly amid current regional and global challenges, and called for preserving constructive dialogue and cooperation in addressing related issues. 

Speaker of Lebanese Parliament Meets Qatari Ambassador

HE Speaker of the Parliament of the sisterly Republic of Lebanon, Nabih Berri met Thursday with HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Lebanon, Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.
Discussion during the meeting, dealt with bilateral relations and ways to support and strengthen them, in addition to developments in Lebanon and the region.
HE the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament hailed the State of Qatar’s ongoing efforts to support Lebanon, praising its unwavering support for the Lebanese people.
For his part, HE the Ambassador affirmed the State of Qatar’s firm commitment to supporting Lebanon under all circumstances, especially in light of the challenges it is facing.

Minister of State at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malian Foreign Minister Discuss Ties, Sahel Region Developments

HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi held Thursday a telephone conversation with HE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Mali Abdoulaye Diop.

Discussion during the call focused on Qatar-Mali cooperation relations and means to bolster them, in addition to developments in the Sahel region.

HE the Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Qatar’s condemnation of the attacks on several military and civil sites in the republic of Mali. He also voiced the State of Qatar’s full solidarity with the Republic of Mali, and its support for all measures taken by Bamako to preserve its security, stability and the safety of its citizens.

HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi has held high-level talks in Athens focused on bilateral relations and recent regional developments.

His Excellency met separately on Wednesday with HE First Vice President of the Hellenic Republic’s Parliament Ioannis Plakiotakis; HE Chair of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on National Defense and Foreign Affairs Dora Bakoyannis; and HE Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexandra Papadopoulou.

The meetings discussed ways to support and strengthen bilateral cooperation between Doha and Athens as well as the latest developments in the region.

Qatar Advances National Human Rights Plan with Focus on Justice Reform

The State of Qatar has continued a series of high-level consultative sessions aimed at shaping its National Human Rights Action Plan (2026–2030), with a strong emphasis on judicial reform and alignment with international standards.

The sessions are being presided over by HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Dr. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad. The latest session was hosted on Wednesday by HE President of the Supreme Judiciary Council and President of the Court of Cassation, Dr. Hassan bin Lahdan Al Mohannadi and brought together senior officials and stakeholders to review key pillars of the draft plan.

Discussions centered on strengthening coordination between national institutions and ensuring that legislation and public policies are consistent with global human rights frameworks.

Participants examined ways to enhance judicial procedures related to human rights, reinforcing the principles of justice and the rule of law. Improving the efficiency of the litigation system was highlighted as a priority, with the goal of safeguarding rights and freedoms more effectively.

Officials also pointed to recent progress in Qatar’s judicial sector, including the introduction of clearer timelines for legal proceedings and expanded digital access to court services. These measures, they said, are designed to promote fairness, transparency and equal access to justice.

The session further explored mechanisms to strengthen guarantees for access to justice, in line with international best practices and the broader objectives of the national strategy.

In closing, participants underscored the importance of the National Action Plan as a comprehensive framework to advance human rights protections and guide policy development. They noted that the initiative reflects Qatar’s commitment to sustainable development and to upholding principles of human dignity, equality and non-discrimination.

The consultative meetings form part of an inclusive approach adopted by the national committee responsible for drafting the plan, aiming to incorporate diverse perspectives and expertise.

The development of the National Action Plan is seen as a strategic step in reinforcing Qatar’s long-term commitment to human rights and institutional reform. 

Qatar: Dialogue, Adherence to International Law, Good Neighbourliness as Core Pillars of Conflict Resolution

The State of Qatar affirmed that serious dialogue and adherence to the principles of international law and good neighbourliness are the fundamental pillars for resolving crises and avoiding their dangerous repercussions. 

This came in a statement delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, before the United Nations Security Council’s quarterly open debate on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question at the UN headquarters in New York. 

Her Excellency noted that the Council meeting is being held amidst the current situation in the Arabian Gulf region, since Feb. 28, and the subsequent serious and multifaceted repercussions for it has on international peace and security. 
She reaffirmed Qatar’s condemnation of attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Qatar and Gulf states, as well as all violations targeting the national sovereignty of Qatar and the countries of the region, including attacks on residential areas, vital infrastructure, and energy facilities, which resulted in civilian casualties and material losses, constituting violations of international law and international humanitarian law. 

The UN Security Council Resolution 2817, submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and Jordan and backed by 136 countries, underscored strong support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and political independence of these states, Her Excellency said, adding that it also emphasized respect for navigational rights and freedoms in accordance with international law, particularly concerning vital maritime routes. 
Regarding developments in the Strait of Hormuz, HE Permanent Representative of Qatar to the UN stressed the importance of ensuring security of maritime routes, freedom of navigation and international trade in line with international law. The Strait’s security is linked to global energy security and supply chains, calling for concerted efforts to guarantee freedom of navigation and the opening of maritime routes, as it has regional and international implications. 

She noted that Qatar welcomed the US-Iran ceasefire announcement on April 8, expressing appreciation for mediation efforts by Pakistan and other parties, and stressed the importance of full commitment to consolidating de-escalation and creating suitable conditions for dialogue. 

Regarding the occupied Palestinian territories, Qatar condemned the illegal Israeli occupation’s measures in the West Bank, including reclassifying Palestinian land as so-called Israeli “state land,” accelerating settlement activity, approving legislation allowing the death penalty, and restricting freedom of worship in occupied Jerusalem. It reaffirmed its support for a two-state solution based on international legitimacy, ensuring the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the necessity of ending the occupation, settlement activity, and all illegal Israeli practices in the occupied territory. 

Regarding the current situation in the Gaza Strip, Her Excellency explained that the State of Qatar emphasizes the necessity for all parties to fully implement the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and to open the crossings to ensure the sustainable and unhindered flow of humanitarian aid to the Strip. She affirmed Qatar’s full and unwavering commitment to the Peace Council since the inception of mediation efforts, up to and including the signing of the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement with partners. She also reiterated Qatar’s continued coordination of humanitarian efforts with partners in the United Nations and the Peace Council, supporting the recovery and reconstruction process and enhancing the prospects for sustainable peace. 

As for the situation in the Gaza Strip, Qatar stressed the need for full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, the opening of crossings to ensure sustained and unhindered humanitarian aid, and reaffirmed its continued commitment to mediation efforts and coordination with UN partners to support recovery, reconstruction, and prospects for lasting peace. HE affirmed Qatar’s unwavering commitment to the Peace Council up to, and including, the signing of the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement with partners. 

She also reiterated Qatar’s continued coordination of humanitarian efforts with partners in the United Nations and the Peace Council to support the reconstruction process and enhance the prospects for sustainable peace. 
Her Excellency stated that Qatar reaffirms its support for the sovereignty and unity of Syria, condemning Israeli attacks that violate international law, and affirmed its firm stance on the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Lebanon, expressing full solidarity with measures taken to preserve its security and stability. 

HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations also pointed out that Qatar welcomes the ceasefire as an initial step toward de-escalation and appreciates mediation efforts, including those by US President Donald Trump, stressing the need to uphold and build on the ceasefire.

At the beginning of the call, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs congratulated Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi on his appointment as Prime Minister and the formation of the new government, wishing him success and expressing his hope for further development and growth in relations between the two countries.

Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Qatar Rejects Closure of Strait of Hormuz, Supports Mediation Efforts

Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari reaffirmed the State of Qatar’s commitment to dialogue and diplomatic solutions to resolve conflicts, and its categorical rejection of using the Strait of Hormuz as a political pressure tool. He noted that Qatar continues to support regional and international mediation efforts, foremost among them those led by Pakistan.

During the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ weekly briefing, Al Ansari said that preventing ships and tankers from passing through the Strait of Hormuz was unacceptable under any circumstances, and that using it as leverage in any military or political conflict was completely rejected. He stressed the necessity of keeping the strait open regardless of other considerations.

He noted that the closure of the strait had global economic repercussions, affecting energy security, food security, and global supply chains, and that current conditions served no one.

In a related context, he affirmed that the State of Qatar placed the safety of workers on oil tankers among its top priorities, while continuing to monitor developments and negotiations related to reopening the strait, reiterating warnings against using it as a pressure tool amid current international and economic conditions.

Regarding the Gulf consultative summit held today in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the spokesperson reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to the Gulf system, noting that coordination among Gulf Cooperation Council countries has continued since the beginning of the crisis through ongoing communication and mutual visits between leaders and officials.

Al Ansari said that holding a GCC consultative summit given the current circumstances was a natural step in light of continued coordination. He added that the GCC position was clear in that the solution should be diplomatic and reached as soon as possible.

He noted that GCC countries have, in recent years, demonstrated the effectiveness of their roles in mediation and conflict resolution, becoming an international hub for dispute resolution and widely relied upon.

On supporting dialogue and diplomatic solutions to crises, Al Ansari said that the State of Qatar’s position had been clear since the beginning of the war, emphasizing that any conflict should be resolved through negotiations. He stressed that Qatar supports negotiations and will continue to back peaceful and diplomatic solutions in various crises.

He added that there was full coordination with partners in Pakistan regarding ongoing mediation efforts, noting that recent movements and contacts, including visits by the Pakistani prime minister to several Gulf states, fall within the framework of continued coordination and cooperation.

He said that there was no need to expand the scope of negotiations, especially as there was already a mediator playing a positive role and maintaining communication with all parties to reach a solution, and that this mediator has full support.

He pointed to continued coordination with regional and international partners to find a peaceful resolution to end the crisis.

He affirmed that the State of Qatar has taken all necessary military measures to ensure its safety and has managed to intercept around 98% of the missiles targeting it, while retaining its right to protect its sovereignty.

He also noted progress in some talks despite challenges, describing ceasefire measures as a positive step that should be built upon to reach a lasting solution.

Al Ansari reiterated that Qatar sought a final resolution to the conflict that ensures regional stability and puts an end to its economic and security repercussions, while avoiding a return to cycles of escalation and working toward a comprehensive diplomatic settlement.

Regarding the State of Qatar’s mediation efforts, he said that halting such efforts would not be useful to any party, adding that mediators may face criticism, but that it does not diminish the importance of continuing these efforts.

He stressed that the State of Qatar remains engaged in mediation across multiple regional and global files, noting ongoing cooperation with regional partners such as Egypt and Turkiye.

In a separate context, he expressed the State of Qatar’s appreciation, as well as that of countries in the region, for European partners who have demonstrated a high degree of reliability within the framework of this conflict.

He added that the greatest concern currently related to regional security, noting that perceptions of risk and threat have evolved, and emphasizing the importance of reaching comprehensive and sustainable solutions in the interest of the region peoples, including the Iranian people.

Regarding Lebanon, Al Ansari reaffirmed the State of Qatar’s continued support for the Republic of Lebanon in many ways, whether by backing the Lebanese Armed Forces or coordinating with international partners within the framework of the Quintet Committee, noting that contacts continue with all parties in this regard.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Holds Consultative Session on National Human Rights Action Plan
