Third Qatar–Japan Strategic Dialogue Convenes in Doha

Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Toshimitsu Motegi, co-chaired the Third Qatar–Japan Strategic Dialogue on January 13, 2026, in Doha, Qatar.

The Qatar–Japan Strategic Dialogue is a testament to the strong partnership between the two countries, further reinforced by the announcement of a broader Strategic Partnership in 2023. Both Ministers commended the strength of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their shared commitment to further deepening the Qatari–Japanese partnership. They also reviewed the progress achieved since the Second Strategic Dialogue held in 2023.

Prime Minister Al Thani and Foreign Minister Motegi discussed ways to advance bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of global and regional stability, defense, energy, economic and technological cooperation, and cultural and educational exchange.

The Ministers exchanged views on global and regional developments, including developments in the Middle East, Israel-Palestine, Iran, and Syria, as well as East Asian affairs. They underscored the importance of diplomacy, dialogue, and multilateral engagement in promoting peace and stability.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of strengthening economic and energy cooperation, emphasizing energy security, stable supply, and collaboration in technology and innovation. They highlighted the role of trade, investment, and cooperation in advanced industries in supporting economic growth and diversification in both countries.

The two countries reiterated their commitment to defense and security cooperation, including cooperation on maritime security and freedom of navigation, in line with shared interests in regional stability.

The two Ministers emphasized the strength of Qatar–Japan relations and the opportunities to further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. Relevant working groups will continue to convene in 2026 to advance these objectives, with outcomes to be presented at the Fourth Qatar–Japan Strategic Dialogue to be held in Tokyo.

HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani met Monday with HE US Undersecretary of State for Economic Affairs, Jacob Helberg, who is visiting the country.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the close strategic relations between the State of Qatar and the United States and ways to support and strengthen them, in addition to a host of topics of common interest.

Minister of State at Ministry of Foreign Affairs Meets Somali Officials

HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi met on Monday with HE Somali President’s Envoy, Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir Mohamed and HE State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Ali Mohamed Omar.
During the meeting, they discussed cooperation relations between the two countries and ways to support and enhance them, in addition to the latest developments in the region, as well as a range of other topics of mutual interest.
HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs renewed the State of Qatar’s firm position in support of the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, affirming Qatar’s full support for the legitimate Somali state institutions, and its keenness to preserve Somalia’s security and stability, and to safeguard the interests of its brotherly people.

During the call, they reviewed bilateral relations and ways to support and strengthen them, discussed the latest regional developments, and addressed a host of topics of mutual interest.

HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated Qatar’s keenness on supporting the Republic of Iraq in achieving the aspirations of its people for stability, development, and prosperity.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Meets Foreign Minister of Bangladesh

HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi met with HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Touhid Hossain.

The meeting took place on the margins of the extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), convened in Jeddah on Saturday.

Discussions focused on ways to advance bilateral cooperation between the two countries, as well as a range of matters of shared interest. 

Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Receives Phone Call from Angolan Minister of External Relations

HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani received a phone call on Saturday from HE Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Angola, Tete Antonio.

During the call, they discussed ways to advance bilateral cooperation between the two countries, as well as to promote a peaceful solution pathway between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Rwanda.

HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the State of Qatar’s unyielding position, calling for conflicts to be resolved through dialogue and peaceful means, and for the respect of international law principles to strengthen stability, global peace, and security.

Minister of State at Ministry of Foreign Affairs Meets UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations

HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi met on Thursday, through video conferencing, with HE Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations of the United Nations Jean-Pierre Lacroix.

The meeting discussed efforts to achieve peace and stability in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as the workings of the ceasefire oversight and verification mechanism that the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Congo River Alliance (March 23 Movement) agreed to establish in October, with facilitation from the State of Qatar.

HE the Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the State of Qatar’s belief in the importance of dialogue as a means to resolve conflicts and its keenness to support peaceful efforts aimed at ending the conflict in eastern Congo.

For his part, HE the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations praised the efforts made by the State of Qatar with its partners to facilitate dialogue between the conflicting parties in the region.

Qatar Expresses Deep Regret Over Damage to Its Embassy Building in Ukraine Following Shelling of Kyiv

The State of Qatar expresses its deep regret over the damage sustained by its embassy building in Ukraine as a result of the shelling of the capital, Kyiv, last night. It confirms that none of its diplomats or embassy staff were harmed.

In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs underscores the necessity of protecting embassies, diplomatic missions, headquarters of international organizations, and civilian facilities from the consequences of crises, and of ensuring the safety of their personnel in accordance with international law.

The Ministry reiterates the State of Qatar’s firm position calling for a resolution to the Russian-Ukrainian crisis through dialogue and peaceful means, in accordance with the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, and reaffirms its full support for all international efforts aimed at de-escalation.

Minister of State at Ministry of Foreign Affairs Meets Special Representative of African Union for Mali, Sahel Region

HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi met on Thursday with HE Special Representative of the African Union Commission for Mali and the Sahel region and Head of the African Union Mission in Mali and the Sahel, Mamadou Tangara, who is visiting the country.

During the meeting, they discussed developments in the African Sahel region, in addition to initiatives to support stability and strengthen regional and international efforts aimed at achieving security and development in the Sahel countries.
