Zikalala to hand over the Ndwedwe SAPS victim support centre

Public Works and Infrastructure Deputy Minister Sihle Zikalala will on Tuesday open and hand over the Ndwedwe South African Police Service (SAPS) victim support centre in Ndwendwe, KwaZulu-Natal.

As the country continues efforts to combat violence directed at women and children, Zikalala, who is also the Cabinet District Development Model (DDM) Champion of the iLembe District (KwaDukuza, Ndwedwe, Mandeni, KwaMaphumulo), will intensify his response against GBVF.

Deputy Minister Zikalala will also receive an update on the response plans by various stakeholders against GBVF.

“The handover of the Victim Friendly Room will provide a safe space where victims of GBVF crime can be interviewed and give statements in a confidential, respectful and dignified manner.

“The opening and handover form part of efforts aimed at ensuring the scourge of GBVF is combated, while encouraging rural women to come forward and speak out to get support.

“This is also in line with the National Strategic Plan (NSP) in fighting against Gender Based Violence (GBV) and the protection of vulnerable individuals and communities,” the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure said in a statement. – SAnews.gov.za
