Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson: Advisory from a number of embassies to their citizens do not reflect the existence of specific threats

Doha – June 23

Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Minister and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, indicated that the advisory issued by a number of embassies to their citizens to take precautions or avoid certain locations in the State of Qatar are part of the general policies followed by a number of countries regarding travel advisories and security updates for their citizens around the world, and do not necessarily reflect the existence of specific threats.

In a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), Dr Al-Ansari stressed that the security situation in the country is stable, and that the relevant authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are ready to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of citizens, residents, and visitors, and that they will keep the public informed of any developments that require alerts or action, emphasizing the need to obtain information from official sources.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson added that the State of Qatar continues to make active diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and maintain regional security and stability by engaging with key stakeholders and regional and international partners.

HE President of the sisterly Republic of Turkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan met Saturday with HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, on the sidelines of the 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which is taking place in Istanbul, Turkiye.

At the outset of the meeting, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs conveyed the greetings of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to HE the President of the Republic of Turkiye and His Highness’ wishes of good health and happiness to His Excellency and continued progress and prosperity for the Turkish people.

For his part, HE the President of the Republic of Turkiye entrusted HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs with his greetings to HH the Amir, wishing His Highness good health and happiness, and further development and growth for the Qatari people.

The meeting discussed bilateral cooperation relations and ways to support and enhance them, as well as the latest developments in the region, particularly in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, the continued Israeli aggression on the territories of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in addition to a number of issues of mutual concern.

Qatar Strongly Condemns Attack on Church in Damascus

The State of Qatar strongly condemns the attack on St. Elias Church in Damascus, the capital of the Syrian Arab Republic, which resulted in  deaths and injuries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirms the State of Qatar’s firm position of all forms of violence, terrorism, and criminal acts, regardless of their motives or causes. It strongly condemns any targeting of places of worship and acts that terrorize civilians. The Ministry also expresses Qatar’s full solidarity with the Syrian government in all measures it undertakes to preserve security and stability.

The Ministry extends the State of Qatar’s heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of Syria , and  wishes the injured a speedy recovery.

Qatar Regrets the Deterioration of the Situation with the Strikes on Iranian Nuclear Facilities

The State of Qatar regrets the deterioration of the situation with the strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. Qatar is following with grave concern the developments following the recent attacks on the sisterly Islamic Republic of Iran, which targeted its nuclear infrastructure. In this context, Qatar underscores the urgent need to halt all military operations and to immediately return to dialogue and diplomatic channels to resolve outstanding issues.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns that the current dangerous tension in the region could lead to catastrophic consequences at both the regional and international levels. Qatar hopes all parties will exercise wisdom, restraint, and to avoid further escalation, which the peoples of the region—already burdened by conflict and its tragic humanitarian toll—cannot endure.

The Ministry also reaffirms Qatar’s full support for all regional and international efforts aimed at resolving disputes and defusing crises through peaceful means, in order to consolidate peace and stability in the region.

Qatar Partakes in Meeting of International Follow-up Committee on Libya

The State of Qatar participated in the meeting of the International Follow-up Committee on Libya, which was held in the German capital, Berlin.

HE Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Faisal bin Abdullah Al Hanzab represented the State of Qatar at the meeting.

In his speech at the meeting, His Excellency reaffirmed the State of Qatar’s steadfast commitment to continue to work with regional and international partners to achieve sustainable peace in Libya and support Libyan national institutions in a manner that serves the aspirations of the brotherly Libyan people, achieve national reconciliation, and build the Libyan state.

His Excellency also emphasized the State of Qatar’s full support for Libya’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, along with the importance of creating appropriate conditions for holding fair and transparent parliamentary and presidential elections based on a consensual constitutional framework.

His Excellency added that the State of Qatar values the United Nations-led process, the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, and the role of the Special Representative of the Secretary General.

Discussion during the meeting focused on the latest developments in the region, particularly the continued Israeli aggression against the territory of the sisterly Islamic Republic of Iran.

In this context, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated the State of Qatar’s strong condemnation and denunciation of the Israeli aggression against Iranian territory, considering it a flagrant violation of Iran’s sovereignty and security, and a clear breach of the rules and principles of international law.

IAEA Director General Meets with GCC Ambassadors

HE Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi met today with Their Excellencies ambassadors of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries accredited to the IAEA.

During the meeting, the GCC ambassadors conveyed the GCC members’ concerns over the current situation and their special interest in the safety of nuclear facilities, especially those geographically close to GCC countries. They emphasized the need to ensure the highest levels of preparedness and preventive measures.

The GCC ambassadors emphasized the pivotal role played by the IAEA in enhancing preventive security at the regional and international levels and following up on the technical and operational obligations of countries under the comprehensive safeguards system.

They warned of the serious consequences of targeting nuclear facilities, both human and environmental, as this poses a direct threat to radiological safety and the international nuclear safeguards system, as well as a clear violation of international law and international humanitarian law.

Qatar Affirms it Continued Efforts to Support Dealing with Root Causes of Poverty

The State of Qatar reaffirmed its continued contributions to international efforts aimed at addressing the root causes of poverty, underdevelopment, and conflict by accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Pact for the Future, and other relevant international commitments, in order to achieve a world that is more peaceful, secure, stable, and prosperous for all.

This came in the statement delivered by HE the State of Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani during the high-level open debate of the UN Security Council on the theme poverty, underdevelopment, conflict and their implications for the maintenance of international peace and security. The open debate was held at the UN headquarters in New York.

Her Excellency highlighted the State of Qatar’s emphasis on the strong link between development and peace, citing the country’s extensive experience in mediation, conflict resolution, and addressing global humanitarian and development challenges.

She stressed the need to strengthen collective efforts to achieve peace and sustainable development.

She underscored the importance of prioritizing efforts to reduce poverty and marginalization by promoting inclusive economic growth that involves combating poverty and providing access to education, employment, and healthcare, within the framework of accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and the 2024 Pact for the Future.

Her Excellency said that the deteriorating humanitarian situations, rising unemployment, and economic and developmental decline caused by conflicts in turn fuel further conflict, creating fertile ground for extremism, instability, and the perpetuation of violence. She added that in the context of the Middle East that the State of Qatar has called for an end to Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip, warning of its dangerous consequences. She also cited the State of Qatar’s strong condemnation of the Israeli attack on the territory of the sisterly Islamic Republic of Iran, and stressed the need to avoid escalation that could widen the conflict and undermine regional security and stability.

Her Excellency noted that the State of Qatar recognizes the critical importance of international cooperation and solidarity in addressing global challenges linked to development and conflict. She pointed out that the State of Qatar’s international cooperation strategy supports the goal of advancing economic and social development in low-income and least developed countries, as well as countries affected by humanitarian crises and conflicts, in line with the SDGs.

Her Excellency stressed that the State of Qatar was committed to providing aid to those affected by conflicts and humanitarian emergencies through both bilateral and multilateral channels, noting that many countries have benefited from the country’s humanitarian and development assistance, covering more than 100 countries across different continents.

HE Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN also emphasized that effectively addressing the challenges of development and conflict requires the Security Council to ensure that its discussions and resolutions reflect the implementation of its previous commitments in this regard.
